Have you seen the Fanworksfinder site? Seems like a decent idea to me, if it gets enough people behind it.
Trying it out...
Jul. 20th, 2007 02:11 pmFound this wonderful guide how to back up your LJ and import the contents to Insanejournal, Greatestjournal or others with the same platform. So I copied my LJ entries to IJ (I will be keeping my GJ account just for ficcy bits) and also installed Semagic to try out simultaneous posting to several accounts as described here. If it works, I'm glad, because IJ account is a good thing to have in case of an emergency and it seems more and more people are getting one, but frankly I cannot be arsed to keep different journals and am too lazy also to just copypaste into two separate accounts otherwise. If this Semagic thing works, though, it makes it a lot easier.
Divulged my nefarious plans to desert my present job to my superiors today. Of course I wasn't met with obvious delight *snerk*, but it wasn't bad either, so YAY!!! back to the blood, sweat and tears again, starting around October the latest.

Jul. 18th, 2007 02:34 pmI've recently finished tagging my exported bookmarks on delicious.
So, if anyone is interested in my ca 2500 bookmarks, here they are: http://del.icio.us/calime
A lot of fic, most of it slash, some randomosity. Be warned that those are in no way recs, though I've read all of them at some time. Especially in Highlander fandom I used to bookmark all and sundry, even stuff I'd never reread, and I did read pretty much anything I found. I've been playing with the idea of adding a tag to indicate what in my mind would be a good stroy, but then again, tastes vary and I'm vaguely horrified at the thought of going through all these 2000+ links again (and lots of those are homepages or archives, too) to read and analyse and tag. i probably will, though, but not any time soon. The newer additions are perhaps more ... handpicked, but I still have the tendency to read A LOT and also, bookmark A LOT. You have been adequately warned, I hope.
I took advantage of my three vacation days and re-read a lot of LeGuin. In Estonian translation, which is fortunately good, though now I want to read them all again in English. I'd forgotten how much I liked the Left Hand of Darkness. Frankly, I like all of her books. I did originally try to read Laurell K. Hamilton's latest Anita Blake book, but was again defeated by its awfulness (that was the second try). Why, oh why *tears hair* does she do that??? I loved the first books in that series, really. There was snark and asskicking and the sexy undead. And it was erotic as long as she didn't write actual sex. She should go to some fanficcers to learn how to write smut. *bangs head against desk*. I mean, I think this is the first book ever that I've not managed to read through - in the absence of anything new to read, I've once read even something on the lines of an old edition of Communism builders' handbook and speeches of V.I. Lenin. Maybe I'm spoiled by the availability of free fic online, a lot of it better than published books. *sigh* Fuck you, Ms. Hamilton, for not knowing when to stop. I LIKED the first Anita Blake books! *weeps* *shakes fist*. And now, I cannot even force myself through the last one.

Jul. 18th, 2007 11:38 amFirst, Happy (belated) birthday to
ithidrial! Wishing you happiness and all and sundry fannish pleasures!
Secondly, I'm watching y'all!!!
Fits my life, lately, at least concerning the LJ participation. Real life, OTOH, has been rather busy.( cut for longish RL ramblings )
And, finally, a random tidbit : Newsweek says that Estonia is ahead of US in terms of internet connections per household". Somehow, I'm not surprised. After all, here is the land of free WIFI and in addition to the sundry cable internet services, every mobile phone company offers its own wireless services, there has been a nationwide project for getting wireless internet to the faraway farms and the freshest news is a wireless 'net service that operates on the frequency of old now obsolete NMT mobile phones. I think 99,9 % of the country has some kind of internet connection available. Of course, me and
dresta11 are sure it will lead to an apocalypse. We ride!
[13:20] Calime a.k.a. Piuksuv Urson - evil genius & the Undead Sausage: we is teh world leading power in the internets!
[13:21] Jessikas : ok, and were will we lead this miserable world?
[13:21] Calime a.k.a. Piuksuv Urson - evil genius & the Undead Sausage: into the apocalypse!!!!
[13:21] Jessikas : ok

Mingle2 - Online Dating
This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:
* dead (4x)
* bomb (1x)
I wonder how many entries they analyzed?
*evil cackle* I should spell "porn" and "fuck" and "buttsex" out properly more, probably.
Here goes: World domination through porn, gay sex and an occasional cute pettable apocalypse!!!!! We ride!!!!
*goes to see what the little scripty says now* *snickers*
ETA:
I was right, oh so riight! *eg*

They really don't bother looking too far back, do they?
And of course, "bomb" and "dead" are so much gentler, milder, unthreatening words than "porn" or, god forbid, "fucking".
Offspring of ETA:
See, now it found "kill"!!!

Now I'm stealing memes...
Jun. 22nd, 2007 07:01 pm... from
holde_maid:
Ask me a question, personal, fandom, fic. If you've ever had a burning desire to know something, now's your chance. However I do reserve the right to reply with a silly answer if the real answer would be too TMI (or if I a can't come up with any real answer).
P.S. If the question is "When the hell will you stop the memespam and do/write something of interest/usefulness?", then, um, the honest answer is, "I don't know. But hope springs eternal."
On a random note, I've bought a very cheap guitar and an accord handbook. I blame a)the fact that there is an online quitar school available here; b)that the nice girls form the folk music academy managed to teach even me three basic accords on a local zither in less than half an hour and c)possibly, I am becoming more and more insane as I grow older, also, less with the "I cannot" and more with the "Bring 'em on!" attitude.

And as I cannot get the code for the result work, I just copy, paste and go to bed. After all, there's sufficient yellow and sundry related colours in my journal already.
Yellow
Your soul is painted the color yellow, which embodies the characteristics of joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, gold, hope, liberalism, sociability, friendship, death, courage, intellect, confidence, communication, travel, movement, attraction, persuasion, and charm. Yellow is the color of the element Air, and symbolizes the sun, grain, and the power of thought.

Jun. 14th, 2007 10:33 pm( ... a.k.a. pay no attention, Cali rambles about nothing new. It happens sometimes when thinking catches me unaware. Terribly emo of me. )
If it continues this way, I might even write something fanficcy sometime. I mean, try to channel the flow of the logorrhoea from brain to itchy fingertips into something more ... coherent? Universally useful? Which would probably be good for me. Yes, I really don't think much about poor innocent bystanders who might happen to read the results ... it's all about my satisfaction *g*. Sorry. I never said I was nice, did I?

Jun. 12th, 2007 07:48 pmTwo of my dog-related good acquaintances were traveling back from a successfully spent time on the European Winner dog show. And apparently, in Hungary, they met a truck.
Now, a brilliant someone who was a fellow horseperson, a fellow dogperson, briefly my student and soon-to-be colleague... is no more. All three dogs that were in the car, dead, too. The second person hurt, but luckily alive.
Just another reminder of how fragile the fabric of the world is for anyone of us. *Blink*, and we're here...*blink* and we're...not here anymore.

Jun. 10th, 2007 03:13 pmThe nice meme is going around again..and as it is no less true now, I'll repost.
If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
On an unrelated note,( I like Toshiko )
Also, on another unrelated note, dear life, don't be a bitch. I can do much better without any pesky health problems, kthx.
