Huh. Also, snow.
Dec. 11th, 2010 10:08 pmHL holiday shortcuts fic off to beta, wheeee! Am resolutely not tinkering or looking at it and wondering whether it is any good at all, because that way lies madness. Well, at least not until I get it back:)
Have been busy, won't bore you with details, except to say that I'm back in a PhD program (uh, which very likely means *more busy soon* and also, *scary*) and I.WILL.FINISH. this time. I shall conquer. Hear me roar. Or possibly flail. Anyways, as I now have, like, actual workgroup to be a part of, and supervisor, and financing, and, like, plans and data and stuff, well, it's better than before, when I kind of had none of that. *squints at an article she's writing, resolutely ignores for the moment.* Focus on the positive, focus on the positive.
It seems there has been snow in above-the-normal limit for many places - well, here they decided it's officially a snowstorm and called it Monika. In short, there's a lot of snow, and more coming. Some roads were really impassable for a short while, some people are still waiting for the electricity to come back and there were some accidents, but all in all, snow really does not disrupt the life here too much. People are rather used to it, even though the winter always comes unexpectedly. Some years, several times:)
Someone has made a clipshow from our little tussle with Monika the snowstorm, so, here you go:
And now, I'll go and have some more alcohol-free glögg.

Date: 2010-12-12 09:24 pm (UTC)It's not quite a run-of-the-mill winter for us either, those usually come once or twice every 15-20 years, but generally, it's not really extreme, either. Still, I'm glad I live in town and walk to work - no worries of being snowed in without the electricity for me! Also, I really heart the woodstove:)

Date: 2010-12-12 09:29 pm (UTC)There was some damage, and sadly, a few deaths, but basically most of the snow-related problems boiled down to roads being sucky or impassable for a while and some households losing electricity. By now, life's pretty much gone back to normal; snow is still coming - there's about the same amount of it now as last year at half-winter!, - and it's very pretty.

Date: 2010-12-18 10:22 pm (UTC)Snow is always a double edged sword. Pretty and useful for skiing, but always dangerous on the roads.

Date: 2010-12-12 06:55 pm (UTC)Hope you are buttoned up against the storms! We're on the storm track here, too, this year. No complaints, farmers need the water.

Date: 2010-12-12 09:33 pm (UTC)Seems there are storms everywhere, with or without snow. I'm not complaining of snow, it's better than mud, though I worry a bit about what another heavy snowy winter will do to the roe deer population here - they cannot get food, if there's too much snow. They were getting far too numerous, but last winter killed a lot, and they don't really need a repeat (and neither do the winter crops), but hopefully it'll not be too bad.
