...or in other words, modern medicine hath cut me up, fixed some bits and sewn me up again. And they let me come home today. With all due respect for the modern medicine, unless I'm the one in blue scrubs and wielding the weapons, I prefer getting out of hospitals as soon as possible.
I was lucky to get into the surgery less than an hour after checking in to the hospital and half past 12 a.m. I was already groggily aware of the world again. I can recommend isoflurane wholeheartedly - felt as fine for me as it seems to feel for dogs *smile*. I was quite sleepy for the whole Tuesday and coldish for the first hours, but I've had worse hangovers during student days *grin*, so... I was up and walking a bit the same evening, enjoying the possibility to take even length steps with both feet without any limping, mmm, heavenly. There's still a loss of sensation in some areas, maybe even more than before, but that's not bothering me, and it is highly likely it'll pass. And the next day there was only some muscle pain and the smallish op wound, and the physical rehab was easy (and fun, we talked shop with physio students and laughed a lot), and I probably looked quite vibrating already, so the doc let me go home this morning.
The neurosurgeon was a nice guy, about my age, and had a quite suitable name for his profession - translated into English it'd be Tailor. He sure cut and sewed me well:). He came to check on me when I was coming out of the anesthesia, talked about my back a bit, then asked: 'You know, we kept wondering with the others, how do you diagnose the disc prolapse in a dog?'. *g* The following proved that I'm able to talk coherently about vet-med related stuff even when still half-stoned *grins*.
Now, I'll just have to take care to keep the back straight and sit for only short spells and take it slowly for the first month. Hmm, bharata natyam comes in handy when one's not supposed to bend - it's good to have squatting down with a straight back down pat:D.
I'm touched and glad and very grateful for everyone for their good wishes. *hugs* Thank you!
And man, am I glad to be home!

Hmm, a puppy... I WAS contemplating a second dog in spring... I must admit, I like the dark and evil bit, though.

So glad you're home and everything turned out so well. Here's hoping for a quick recovery.
