Some things sound, look and are better expressed in English. Some things have a particular flavour in Estonian. Or Russian. Or Finnish, even. I'm sure it can be the same about other languages I'm not familiar with (and that makes me dream of getting to know those languages). Usually I tend to prefer how English sounds...though, there are instances where I'm not sure where my preference lies. I mean, "Kuu ulub alasti taevas" sounds better than "The moon is howling in the naked heaven". At least tonight it seems that way. And it is, by the way, moon, I mean. Very full of itself, and definitely howling. Cold.
And I think my [livejournal.com profile] pictfor1000 story is definitely going to be a Highlander/Outlander crossover. When I first got the pic, I was like OMG WTF am I gonna do, because I wanted to try something HL, and, well, the laundry in the summery breeze just stared at me in a decidedly un-Highlanderish way. But then I woke up one morning, and thought of Claire. And something has been slowly growing on the edges of my mental landscape since. Maybe I should sleep more.
And I did watch Firefly pilot, thanks to the Most Amazing Pimp Evah [livejournal.com profile] sparklebutch. I would squee louder, but my voice is not entirely back from the sniffles-land yet. I loved it, and I'm looking forward for more. It had something of an ambience that reminded me of the older Sw trilogy, and I loved loved loved it. I do like Jayne, but somehow uncharacteristically I find myself falling for Mal (and Kaylee..and I think I'm going to like Wash and Zoe), which is majorly strange, because I usually don't like the first hero types (DMOTCM and D'Artagnan being the most notable exceptions to the rule). I think what did it was him telling Simon with a most dramatic face that Kaylee is dead and enjoying the hell out of himself in the process. Psychotic, mmm, indeed. And, [livejournal.com profile] dresta11 , btw, Simon has a fuckable mouth. I need to make you some copies on cd as soon as I've got all the eps. I think you're going to like it, too :).

"Some things sound, look and are better expressed in English. Some things have particular flavour in Estonian. "

Yes, I can relate to that, even though my mothertongue German is pretty closely related to English, anyway.

At the same time, I often notice that I do not recall in what language I read or heard something. It is just double meanings and the like that may alert me to the fact that I first perceived it in the other language. Our brains work in mysterious ways. *giggle*
