Jul. 14th, 2006 10:07 pmLooking back, it has been a nice day. Seeing as I like studying, continous education courses are nice :). Also, a faint hope getting some help on the PhD thing...maybe I can dig it out of it's shallow grave still.
Bought a cute little vacuum cleaner by a brand called Mouse *grins* and have also done some cleaning on lj, namely f-locked some more personal entries. I'm very free with friending anyway, but as I use the same nickname in some activities that are half-RL-connected too...maybe it's better.
Because I went to buy the vacuum cleaner, I also made the mistake of browsing some other shops...which means that now I have some nice cd's, a dvd of Endgame (most likely not going to rewatch it, but a girl's gotta have one, right?), a cd of horror stories where one story is read by Roger Daltrey *gg*....and also a dvd about how Estonian basketball team Kalev won the last USSR Championship in 1990/91. I know it was mainly called the "singing revolution" here (the whole condunrum of getting free from the USSR), but for me and for lots of others I bet the basketball was a par of it too:). I recall vividly queueing for the tickets and yelling in the hall, or laying with ear glued against the radio to hear the game broadcast. *grins* My teenage crush was a basketball player from the team, not any actor or similar (note: it was before Highlander aired). I think in those last years, me and Dresta didn't miss one home game...*waxes nostalgical*
And last, but not least *drum roll* I've registered and payed for the Vancouver HLWW8 convention !!! Which a)brings the account balance nicely near the zero again ; b)necessitates hoarding of every free penny; and c)makes me happy and sad at the same time, as I want to go, but
dresta11 isn't coming this time...
I haven't even thought about the hotel yet...how are the other attendees on my flist managing that? I've heard that the con hotel sounds rather expensive, but on the other hand, I think someone (was it Mischief?) said on one of the mailing lists that there could be up to 4 persons in a room and that'd reduce the costs? I'll be in need of finding a roommate anyway, as Dresta can't make it...
And I'd be glad to save on accomodation, because the price of the airline tickets boggles mind (will have to go hunting for cheap flight offers) and also need to pay for Canadian visa. Read the visa info and the nice little sentence saying that they can decide to deny entry even if one has a visa transported me "nicely" back into the just-post-Soviet times and that f***ing qute guy in GB border who said to me "Well, you're not actually breaking the law, but I'm having a bad day and I'm sending you back*. Huh. Hopefully not likely scenario now.
The outside temp has cooled a bit. And on that cheerful note I'll finish and go chat.
