Mad Max: Fury Road recs?

So hi, if anyone has good gen Mad Max Fury Road recs, especially the ones that might deal with the stilt walkers glimpsed in passing in the movie, please give them to me? I'm looking for a non-fandom friend, and while I love Fury Road with deep and burning passion, it's been one of those loves for me that doesn't really require fanfiction to add to it, so I'm woefully uninformed about the best gems. Vid recs and all other good (mostly gen) recs are all welcome, too, even if they don't deal with stilt walkers. And any rec/fic comms to trawl through

Introducing a new household member...

...or, um, I am cohabiting with a cat, again. A bit earlier than I planned (I had PLANS. Of home repairs first and then TWO KITTENS. Which, well. I guess I just have to get two kittnes, too, whenever I get the home improvement done). But like it often happens, cat had other plans.
It's a common story in my profession - basically it's an almost-new, slightly used kitteh in need of some repairs (previous owner could not afford said repairs, I had a cat spot open, so it goes). Very purry. I renamed her Ewok, for obvious likeness and to keep to the theme (I have always had Star Wars kittehs living with me).

Bye, Livejournal

So, I haven't been really active on Livejournal - just an occasional crosspost - for a long time, and I thought about deleting it several times after the servers moved to Russia, whom I trust even less than the US :) The new TOS finally gave me the kick in the pants I needed. I have many fond memories of the Livejournal, which was for me really the first site for a more in depth engagement with the fandom, especially Highlander fandom, and I am sad to leave, but it hasn't been the same for a long time.
I have imported the content to DW long time ago, so now it was just the matter of downloading both my own LJ and the Highlander100 community that was started by other fen and that I ran in the end for a while - I will see and try about getting that content up to AO3 one day, per the old community rules- (I used BlogBooker) and deleting both the community and my account. I chose the option to also delete all my entries and comments in other communities.
So, one chapter closed. I will now go and donate to AO3 and continue keeping a paid account here on Dreamwidth - and maybe try posting here more often, and hang out on Tumblr (which is a shitty place though if one wants to have any fannish discource in addition to reblogging pretty pics.

Star Wars

... just got back from the cinema. Will be going again on Tuesday. Will say without spoilers that I liked it (which expression, considering the cultural way of expressing enthusiasm I grew up with, means that I am squeeing. Though, maybe in a more soft, nostalgic way. Maybe this is what getting older feels like.). I laughed and I cried and I was happy to see the old faces and surprisingly liked all the new ones.
Those who want to avoid spoilers - I am not going to spoil anything in this post, but will make no effort to keep spoilers away from comments of this post.

Sadness and signal boosting...

via [personal profile] astolat

You may have seen this elsewhere, but Taselby, whom many of you may remember from Highlander fandom and from vidding and Escapade, has just lost her sixteen year old daughter Parker to a pulmonary embolism. God, I can't even imagine what she's going through. To make matters worse, they racked up huge medical bills because Parker was hospitalized twice this year trying to figure the problem out, and now they don't even have enough for funeral expenses.
The gofundme fundraiser is here. Please signal boost if you can.

More signal boosting for Internet Privacy: CISPA is the new SOPA

Originally posted by )

Here's their next move: The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, would obliterate any semblance of online privacy in the United States.  AND DON'T THINK IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOU IF YOU LIVE ELSEWHERE!!  The knock on effects will be global.

And CISPA would provide a victory for content owners who were shell-shocked by the unprecedented outpouring of activism in opposition to SOPA and Internet censorship.

The House of Representatives is planning to take up CISPA later this month. Click here to ask your lawmakers to oppose it.

SOPA was pushed as a remedy to the supposed economic threat of online piracy -- but economic fear-mongering didn't quite do the trick.

So those concerned about copyright are engaging in sleight of hand, appending their legislation to a bill that most Americans will assume is about keeping them safe from bad guys.

This so-called cyber security bill aims to prevent theft of "government information" and "intellectual property" and could let ISPs block your access to websites -- or the whole Internet.

Don't let them push this back-door SOPA. Click here to demand that your lawmakers oppose CISPA.

CISPA also encourages companies to share information about you with the government and other corporations.

That data could then be used for just about anything -- from prosecuting crimes to ad placements.

And perhaps worst of all, CISPA supercedes all other online privacy protections.

Please click here to urge your lawmakers to oppose CISPA when it comes up for a vote this month.

Thanks for fighting for the Internet.

Listening to Jim Byrnes this cold spring afternoon and surfing the 'net brought me to this... and made my heart ache in a rather pleasant way. I really hope there'll be another Hl con (preferably in europe) that I can manage to attend (this March was really a no-go, on account of me spending all th money I did not have for professional continuing education, and the dates overlapped too). And, well, no matter what. Highlander - still totally the awesomest fandom. You never forget your first;)

Beware ACTA

Originally posted by [profile] electricdruid at The fiasco continues

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.
